VT Group Plc
Description
The Engineering Scheme:
People often think of VT Group plc as an engineering company because they've heard of VT Shipbuilding but even though we do lots of other things there are some areas of the business where innovative engineering designs, techniques and production remain key to the success of those divisions.
As part of the Engineering Graduate scheme you might do placements as a Naval Architect in the design team on the Type 45 or Carrier projects at our state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility located at Portsmouth Naval Base. Perhaps you'll take on a role working as part of a bid-winning project team with the Technical Services arm of VT Communications. Or maybe you're more interested in experiencing life as a project manager at VT Defence providing a quality service to our customer, the Royal Air Force based in Yorkshire.
These are just some examples of the types of graduate engineering placements that become available on the VT Group Graduate Scheme, although our annual vacancies vary according to the needs of the business.
The Benefits:
Your engineering scheme will last for two years during which time you will do a number of placements within your chosen division giving you a variety of roles and a greater breadth of understanding. If the opportunity arises and you are keen to take it there may also be placements within other business divisions.
All schemes are unique to the individual but are likely to include placements in design, production, commercial, bid teams, analysis and R&D to name a few.
We want our graduates to become the best engineers in the world progressing to chartered engineer status through your appropriate organisation (e.g.IMechE, RINA)as quickly as possible and we will support you to achieve this by paying all related fees and study costs and encouraging you to take part in training and development opportunities such as conferences and lectures.
In addition to your technical development, all our graduates are actively encouraged to develop their personal skills and qualities by taking part in Group wide events, conferences and projects. Some projects to date have involved 1st year graduates presenting to the board of directors.
The Opportunities:
Because we are looking for the best graduates to fast-track onto CEng status, we prefer to recruit Masters degree qualified engineering graduates from specific courses, although the university does not matter. However, if you have a 2:2 or above in a Bachelors degree from the same disciplines we may still have places for you on the graduate scheme too.
When you join the graduate scheme you are not signing up for a specific job 2 years down the line - the beauty of our scheme means that you can define your future and identify your strengths through the different placements you will do. This ultimately means that you hold responsibility for getting yourself noticed, networking with the right people and seeking out opportuntities where you want to find them.
Benefits include:
- Contributory Pension Scheme
- Flexible Benefits Programme available from joining
- Fully comprehensive qualification and study package
- Travel expenses depending on location
- Full support network including dedicated Graduate
- Manager, Mentor, Professional Advisor, Buddy
